Theatre Twyford
The Theatre is currently UNDER CONSTRUCTION with an expected opening early 2024. The following is provided as a guide only – final configuration and equipment may change prior to opening. Contact us for more details.
We are taking expressions of interest for events. Until an official opening date is set for the Theatre, we may be able to offer you our Hall venue instead of the Theatre. Enquire about this venue now
Theatre Twyford is a proscenium arch theatre with raked seating, located in the centre of Merimbula on the far south coast of NSW.




Auditorium
- Total maximum seating capacity up to 199 (raked seating)
Note: Practical capacity 194 due to wheelchair spaces/usher seats - Removable seating: up to 15 seats from row A; up to 8 seats from row J for 4 wheelchairs
- Lower auditorium rows A to H: 8 rows, 15-16 seats in each row, 2 outer aisles (up to 124 seats) – stair access only
- Row J has flexible seating for up to 4 wheelchairs plus 8 accompanying carers, or 3 wheelchairs plus 10 accompanying carers – level access via lift and theatre foyer. Each entry door has space to store 2-3 walkers/wheelchairs if patrons wish to transfer to regular seats.

Final dimensions to be confirmed once fitout completed. Proscenium arch stage with sacrificial brown board layer over timber.

- 7.8m deep from down stage to upstage wall (no crossover)
- 6.6m deep from setting line (behind proscenium arch) to upstage wall
- 5.45m deep from setting line to black drop flexible crossover upstage

- Row A auditorium floor to stage level: 0.6m
- Stage level to top of proscenium arch: 5 metres
- Stage level to lighting bar: 5 metres
- Clearance under upstage catwalk: 4.5 metres
Wings
- Stage right (OP) wing width: 5 metres from edge of proscenium arch to OP wall
- Stage left (PS) wing width: 6.5 metres from edge of proscenium arch to PS loading dock edge
- Note: Twyford Hall and Hall stage adjacent to the theatre stage may also be hired as an offstage orchestra space for the Theatre, a green room (PS of Theatre stage) or additional dressing area for large casts/crew.

- Control Room at rear of auditorium on upper level with seating for three operators, film cameras – open to auditorium.

- Mobile Stage management control desk can be used from OP or PS side of stage.
- Stage door entrance on Market St leads to Upper and Lower Dressing Rooms and bathrooms, stage, control room, foyer area.

Length from edge of dock to closest edge of outer door: 2700mm (a 3 tonne truck will protrude onto outer driveway – trucks must be moved to carpark after bump in to allow roller shutters to be closed).

Additional
- Backstage catering with prior notice
- Smoking or vaping not permitted at any time inside the building or within 10 metres of any of the building entrances under NSW and local council regulations. This includes e-cigarettes.
- No alcohol or BYO to be consumed by cast/crew outside licenced area, prior to or during performances by law. The Twyford is a drug-free zone.
- Theatre Foyer may be hired after shows until midnight only – RSA certified staff member must be employed if alcohol service required.
- All visitors and staff agree to abide by Work Health & Safety standards and procedures at all times in the venue including use of appropriate PPE and adherence to COVID safety requirements

Pricing
Listed rates are room hire only. For show buy-ins, share deals, crew costs, bar service, catering or additional equipment hire details, please contact the Venue Manager.
- Hire rates include use of the theatre auditorium, dressing rooms with attached bathrooms, stage, loading dock and cleaning.

Minimum staffing requirements for events:
- Duty Manager and at least 2 Ushers trained in evacuation procedures
- First Aid Certified Officer on roster
- RSA certified staff member when alcohol being served
- Duty Technical Manager during prerig, bump-in and setup when Twyford stage equipment in use
