Did you ever dream of doing something that seemed impossible?
The Fish That Wanted to Fly is about having the courage to pursue something even if it seems likely you will never reach it. In our story we meet a little Fish whose lagoon is drying up. All the other fish have left, and she wants to learn how to fly so she can see them again. Her friend, a hermit crab named Karramoko, sits by a stormwater drain and tells her it will never happen. She meets a Kingfisher who helps her and encourages her to keep trying. It’s not until she meets a Cormorant, who offers to take her up into the sky that she flies for the first time. But will she make it back okay? The tale is set in a mangrove swamp, and is about friendship, resilience and sustainability.

YOUR VISIT
First time in our venue? Our top tips for a successful visit:
- Prepurchase tickets online at any time to avoid queues.
- Box office opens 45 minutes before the show starts. If not sold out, limited in-person tickets will be available for purchase on the day – cashless / card payments only.
- Doors into the Hall open 30 minutes before the show starts. Please move into the Hall as soon as your ticket has been checked.
- Forgot your ticket? Don’t panic, our friendly staff can assist you 🙂
- Seating is numbered – you must sit in your allocated seats.
- For safety reasons, aisles must remain clear at all times. There is space to park prams, walkers etc at the rear of the Hall – please ask our staff if you need assistance.
- Accessibility: The Beach St entrance is accessible for prams, wheelchairs and walkers. Wheelchair users can select a wheelchair seat space when booking. If you have any other specific requirements, please contact us.
- For maximum enjoyment, please make sure little people have eaten and visited the toilet BEFORE the show starts 🙂 Please avoid noisy snack wrappers. Feel free to bring a cushion for very young audience members to raise them higher on their chair.
- The show starts on time. Late arrivals may be asked to wait in the foyer until a suitable pause to avoid disrupting the show.
- Little ones can sometimes react unexpectedly to live performances – if your child becomes upset during the performance, we kindly ask that you move out to the foyer to calm them, to avoid disturbing others. You can watch a short video preview below with your child before the show, so they know what to expect…

- Mask wearing is required for everyone aged 12+ unless proof of exemption can be shown
- COVID Checkin is available and recommended – please ensure you bring your charged mobile phone and that you have the Service NSW Covid-Safe app installed before you arrive.
- Hands-free sanitising stations are available at entry points.
- Online or contactless ticket purchases only – cash not held onsite
- COVID cleaning is performed between each session – please exit the venue as soon as the event has finished and avoid gatherings inside or outside the venue. Participants attending a workshop will need to exit the venue between the show and workshop.
