Medical & Emergency

  • Emergency:  Dial 000 for ambulance, fire, police
  • Should you or someone you are with suffer a sudden illness/injury during a show, please speak to an usher seated just inside the exit doors, or our front of house staff at the box office. The duty manager will be called to provide help.
  • Please do not attempt to move a person who is ill/injured until our trained First Aid staff have assessed the situation. Unless they are in immediate physical danger, it is generally safer for them to remain in place. The duty manager may make the decision to stop the show and evacuate the rest of the audience to another space to make it easier for emergency services to access the patient on their arrival.
  • First Aid Officer on site: contact the Duty Manager 0438 957160. Our technical staff and many of our front of house staff are also trained in First Aid/Apply CPR. The Twyford’s defibrillator (AED) is located in The Twyford Main Entrance corridor, Ground floor off Market St. First Aid Kits are located in the Kitchen on the ground floor, Office Level 1 and a small one in the Control Room Level 2.
  • The Twyford has a comprehensive automatic smoke detection, sprinkler and evacuation warning system throughout the building as well as hose reels and extinguishers. The Theatre stage has a safety curtain that will drop in 30 seconds when a smoke alarm is detected or it can be manually lowered by the stage manager.
  • If you hear the evacuation warning, you must follow the green exit signs and evacuate the building calmly to the Assembly area, following the directions of our Chief Warden and staff . Emergency services may also give directions and these take precedence. Wait for further instructions from emergency services at the Assembly area.
  • Exit paths and Assembly Areas are shown on Evacuation Diagrams around the building.
  • The main Assembly area is in Beach St on the grass opposite the Hall by the Lake UNLESS it is a Tsunami Land Alert, in which case you must head away from the lake and walk uphill to the Woolworths outdoor carpark above the inundation zone (do not attempt to drive).
  • DO NOT USE THE LIFT in an emergency. If you need assistance to evacuate, please advise our staff who will get you as close as possible to an exit and inform emergency services.
  • Do not attempt to reenter the building or leave the assembly area until the all-clear has been given by emergency services. If you leave the area before this happens you may be listed as unaccounted for.
