ABOUT
The Sapphire Coast Concert Band (SCCB) is a community band located in the Bega Valley Shire serving communities across the Shire including Merimbula, Pambula, Bega, Eden, Cobargo, Quaama and Tathra.
The band was founded in 2002 to provide an opportunity for people of all ages to develop and refine their abilities across various music styles. Current membership ranges in age from 8 to 83. Under the musical leadership of Steven Fitzgerald the band has performed at The Twyford over the years and also at Pambula Village Vibes and other events.
The Candelo Adult Band, formed just over a decade ago, has a unique origin. In 2012, when an instrumental program was running at Candelo Public School, a group of parents decided they would also like to learn an instrument. So they got together and started the Candelo Adult Beginner Band (the CABBies).
One condition for joining the band was that you had to learn an instrument you had never played before. 13 years later, the children have all stopped playing but a few parents are still playing and have been joined by other adults and, as the band is no longer for beginners, it is now called the Candelo Adult Band.
The talent of youth will also be on display with a performance by the Sapphire Coast Anglican College (SCAC) Concert Band. This ensemble, not yet even two years old, has performed at a number of school events and at last year’s Battle of the Concert Bands. They rehearse before school starts on Wednesday mornings and have developed a taste for pancakes and hot chocolate over the course of the semester!
These three community and school bands highlight some of the incredible talent that exists in the Bega Valley. They will provide concert goers with an afternoon of musical variety and entertainment featuring solos, trios and full concert band performances. Don’t miss it!
